Neuburg
Also known as: Neuburger (Austria)
Neuburger is one of those grape varieties that has long been part of the standard repertoire in Austria without ever receiving the attention it deserves. The variety produces full-bodied whites with good substance – less aromatic than Grüner Veltliner, but with more body and often a slightly nutty note. In the Wachau, it grows on barren terraces, where low yields allow it to develop concentration.
Nikolaihof has been farming biodynamically since 1971 and vinifies the variety as a classic Smaragd – powerful wines that can age. Hajszan Neumann from Vienna shows the more urban side: lighter, more direct, as part of a Gemischter Satz ensemble.
