Wine Description for Vosne-Romanée „les Champs Perdrix“ AOC 2023 by Bruno Clair

Character
Vosne-Romanée is regarded as the spiritual heart of Burgundy – no other village manages to unite depth, sensuality and aristocratic elegance so effortlessly. Bruno Clair’s „Les Champs Perdrix“ – the „lost fields“ – is a Villages wine with soul: clear in its bearing, precise in its expression, underpinned by that unmistakable terroir fingerprint that makes Vosne so irresistible. With 13.0% alcohol and a dry character, it displays the restraint of a craftsman concerned with expression rather than weight.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site „Les Champs Perdrix“ lies within the commune of Vosne-Romanée, nestled in the renowned Côte de Nuits. The soils are characterised by calcareous clay and marl over solid bedrock – a foundation that gives Pinot Noir that mineral tension which distinguishes Vosne from other villages. The 2023 vintage brought warm, dry conditions to Burgundy with early ripening, producing wines of opulence and simultaneous freshness – provided the winemaker worked with the necessary care in the vineyard.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir in Burgundy is not a raw material but a medium – sensitive, permeable to every influence of soil and human touch. Bruno Clair, whose estate is based in Marsannay, practises a classically artisanal approach: careful hand-harvesting, gentle extraction and ageing that allows the terroir to speak without overworking it. The use of oak typically remains measured, to preserve the natural transparency of Pinot Noir.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine of this origin demands a table and time. Classically it pairs with Boeuf bourguignon, braised lamb shoulder with herbs or Coq au vin. It also harmonises beautifully with aged Comté or Époisses. For those preferring something simpler: sautéed wild mushrooms with polenta allow the wine to shine completely.
