Wine Description for Barolo DOCG Ravera 2020 3000ml Double Magnum by Vietti

Character
Vietti’s Barolo Ravera embodies the elegant austerity of one of Novello’s most significant single vineyard sites. The double magnum bottle format promises extraordinary ageing potential over decades. The 2020 vintage is considered classically structured in Piedmont, with precise fruit and mineral depth – a wine that demands patience and rewards it generously.
Terroir & Origin
The Ravera vineyard site stretches between Novello and Barolo at 400 metres elevation. The calcareous marl soils impart a characteristic tension between power and finesse to the Nebbiolo. Vietti tends old vines here, their roots reaching deep into the Tortonian layers. Novello’s cooler microclimate produces wines distinguished by aromatic precision and fine-grained tannin structure – less opulent than Barolo from Serralunga, yet possessed of captivating elegance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Nebbiolo demands devotion from both winemaker and drinker. This late-ripening variety develops its characteristic tar and rose notes only on the finest vineyard sites. Vietti, an institution in Piedmont since 1919, combines traditional mash fermentation with measured barrique ageing. The result is Barolo of classical character: complex, long-lived, terroir-driven. The double magnum slows maturation and preserves primary fruit intensity longer than standard bottles – a format for collectors and significant occasions.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This Barolo calls for great Piedmontese cuisine: Brasato al Barolo, Tajarin with truffle, aged Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano of at least 36 months. It also displays its full class alongside braised game birds or sweetbreads. The Nebbiolo’s acidity cuts effortlessly through rich dishes, whilst the tannins harmonise with protein-rich fare.
