Wine Description for Timorasso Boscogrosso DOC 2022 by Vietti

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow with green reflections – a youthful, vibrant presence in the glass.
Nose
Initially reserved, almost meditatively closed, then a fascinating aromatic kaleidoscope: acacia, false acacia and blossom honey form the first layer. With air, white flowers, chervil, tarragon, green almonds and hay flowers unfold. Subtle nuances of clove, cinnamon blossom and wild strawberry complete a bouquet in constant evolution – patience is rewarded here.
Palate
Creamy-viscous and of beguiling texture, this wine glides across the palate with effortless elegance. Liquorice, tarragon and false acacia merge with phenolic structure at the edge of the tongue, lending the wine grip and tension. Remarkable is the depth at mid-palate – a pulsing bass with saline minerality and delicate acidity that provides freshness in the background.
Finish
Long, saline-mineral with lingering herbal impression and fine phenolic persistence.
Terroir & Origin
Single vineyard site Boscogrosso near Monleale in the Colli Tortonesi, 310 metres elevation. The chalky and clay-rich soils shape the distinctive, saline terroir expression of this wine from eastern Piedmont.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Timorasso, the rediscovered indigenous grape variety of Piedmont. Spontaneous fermentation in ceramic, stainless steel and wood, 16 months on lees, a further 12 months bottle age. No malolactic fermentation – a deliberate choice for freshness and longevity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Scallops with herb butter, turbot in saffron sauce, vitello tonnato, risotto with truffle, mature Parmigiano Reggiano or Toma Piemontese. The wine has the structure for sweetbreads or guinea fowl with mushrooms.
Special Features
Vietti’s flagship in the Timorasso segment and benchmark for this underrated grape variety. A white wine with the structure and complexity of a great Burgundy – powerful, yet never heavy. Enormous ageing potential of 10+ years.
