Wine Description for Flora 2023 by Roterfaden

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow with seductive orange reflections and characteristic cloudiness – a wine that wears its natural origins openly and scores points for it.
Nose
The nose is simply captivating. Apple, almond and cherry blossom unfold in an elegant duel with no clear winner. Beneath them shimmer orange zest, lime and bergamot, complemented by the exotic kick of kaffir lime leaves and fresh grapefruit juice. A hint of cinnamon and clove along with the bitter skin of mandarin lend the nose a subtle spice. Complex, precise and utterly inviting.
Palate
What the nose promises, the palate delivers in full. The fruit is juicy and present, yet it is the vibrant acidity and fine bitterness that give this wine its unmistakable character. Fine tannins – rare in white wines, here gained through skin contact fermentation – give the mouthfeel substance and texture without sacrificing lightness. Drinkability and vitality dominate every sip.
Finish
Medium-length finish with spicy, slightly bitter notes that unfold hesitantly yet convincingly. The wine bids farewell fresh and invigorating – you inevitably reach for the glass again.
Terroir & Origin
The vines grow on shell limestone in terraced dry stone walls in Baden-Württemberg – a terroir that inscribes minerality and tension into the wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 80% Pinot Blanc and 20% Muscat. The grapes are foot-trodden and left on the skins for five days – hence the fine tannins and orange reflections. Subsequently pressed in a basket press, aged with wild yeast in old wooden barrels, unfiltered and only minimally sulphited. A maiden vintage that already knows who it is.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with grilled fish with citrus vinaigrette, Asian cuisine with lemongrass and ginger, goat’s cheese or a charcuterie board with bitter accompaniments. Also a revelation as an apéritif wine.
Special Features
The maiden vintage 2023 of Flora is an impressive debut: natural, crafted with precision and with an aromatic distinctiveness that awakens curiosity about vintages to come. A wine with character.
