Wine Description for Flora 2023 by Roterfaden
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous golden yellow with orange reflections – an unadorned, naturally cloudy wine that visually reveals its five days of skin contact. The cloudiness is intentional and an expression of minimalist cellar technique.
- Nose
- Seductive and precise in equal measure. A beguiling duet of flowers and zests: apple blossom, almond blossom and cherry blossom meld with the zest of orange, lemon and bergamot. These are joined by grapefruit juice and the exotic note of kaffir lime leaves. Subtle spice from cinnamon and clove along with the bitter skin of mandarin round out the aromatic spectrum – exemplary of the Muscat component.
- Palate
- The nose promises nothing in excess: the wine transports its aromatic abundance seamlessly to the palate. The fruit shows itself full, yet deliberately tart to herbal – a striking stylistic choice that lends character. Perfectly integrated bitter compounds and fine tannins from the skin contact provide structure and substance without compromising the airy lightness. At a moderate 10% alcohol, the wine remains vital and quaffable, with medium length.
- Finish
- Fresh and invigorating with delicate spicy aftertaste. The bitter notes fade elegantly, cinnamon and citrus notes linger – a finale that invites the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The vines are rooted in terraced dry stone walls on shell limestone in Baden-Württemberg – a mineral foundation that gives the wine its saline freshness and tension.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A blend of 80% Pinot Blanc and 20% Muscat. The grapes are foot-trodden, left on the skins for five days, then basket-pressed and vinified in old wooden barrels with wild yeast. Unfiltered, minimally sulphited – a debut with conviction.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Grilled fennel, goat’s cheese, ceviche, Thai salads with herbs, pan-fried scallops or simply focaccia with olive oil – the wine loves everything that mirrors its herbal freshness and spice.
- Special Features
- The inaugural vintage 2023 already displays impressive maturity in concept. A natural wine with a clear signature – authentic, unadorned and with refreshing drinkability.
