Wine Description for Riesling Sekt Brut 2023 by Clemens Busch
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous lemon yellow with green reflections, threaded through with an intense, fine-beaded mousse of medium size. The perlage rises persistently and lends the Sekt that lively brilliance one expects from a well-made Mosel Riesling Sekt.
- Nose
- Here we see the unmistakable signature of Clemens Busch: slate in all its facets – cool, stony, precise. The aromatics combine the mineral austerity of the Pünderich vineyard sites with vibrant citrus fruit: grapefruit, pomelo, mandarin, along with fine bergamot and kaffir lime. Behind these unfold green pear and white peach, played upon by herbal notes – nettle, lemon balm, chervil, lemon thyme. Vegetable accents of pea shoots, artichoke and yellow beetroot lend an almost ethereal freshness. A hint of anise, white pepper and wet stone provides depth – with that characteristic, slightly reductive note that Busch connoisseurs appreciate.
- Palate
- Dry in style, with 10.9 g/l residual sugar and a humane 5.3 g/l acidity – a Sekt that moves in the borderline territory but never feels heavy. The perlage carries the aromas of citrus, herbs and fine slate spice animatedly across the palate. Juicy fruit between yellow and green nuances, precise and clearly structured. This is no simple aperitif Sekt, but a wine with terroir expression and character – charming, but not ingratiating, fresh, but not arbitrary.
- Finish
- Long and mineral, with an elegant interplay between fruit and herbal spice. The balance remains intact through to the end, the aftertaste once again reveals the stony precision of the Mosel slate.
- Terroir & Origin
- The slate soils of the Pünderich vineyard sites – blue, grey, red – fundamentally shape this Sekt. Clemens Busch is among the most uncompromising exponents of biodynamic viticulture on the Mosel, and this philosophy is reflected in the mineral clarity and authenticity.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Oysters, scallop carpaccio, goat’s cheese with herbs, green asparagus with lemon vinaigrette, sushi or sea bass ceviche. Also an excellent choice with pan-fried char and herb butter.
- Special Features
- A quaffable yet by no means banal Sekt with clear provenance. The 11.5% alcohol makes it ideal for longer evenings – authentic, terroir-driven, unmistakably Busch.
