Wine Description for Qvinterra Pinot Gris Dry 2025 by Kühling-Gillot

Character
Kühling-Gillot ranks among the pioneering estates in Rheinhessen that have proven this region is capable of far more than mass-market wines. The Qvinterra line represents an accessible entry point into the philosophy of the house: precise, straightforward wines with clear fruit and vibrant acidity. This Pinot Gris deliberately eschews opulent fullness in favour of drinkability and elegance – a wine that embodies Rheinhessen’s new identity.
Terroir & Origin
Rheinhessen, Germany’s largest wine region, has reinvented itself over the past two decades. Kühling-Gillot manages vineyard sites around Bodenheim am Rhein, where loess, chalk and marl soils provide mineral structure. The mild, continental climate with adequate rainfall and warm summers enables physiological ripeness at moderate alcohol levels – here 12.0% vol., which speaks to contemporary drinkability. The Gillot family works according to biodynamic principles and relies on natural yeasts and minimal cellar intervention.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Gris – traditionally called Grauburgunder in Germany – shows its light-footed, fresh side here. Unlike the full-bodied interpretations from Alsace or South Tyrol, clarity takes centre stage at Kühling-Gillot. The wine is likely aged in stainless steel to preserve primary fruit. With its dry orientation (residual sugar at the lowest level), the wine appeals to modern drinkers who value precision over opulence – a food wine through and through.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Pinot Gris is predestined for light to medium cuisine: pan-fried char, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, goat’s cheese tart or herb-roasted chicken breast. Its restrained nature makes it an ideal companion for Asian cuisine – such as Pad Thai or sushi. It also harmonises beautifully with vegetable curries or mushroom risotto. A wine for everyday drinking that doesn’t demand attention, but rather puts the food in the spotlight.
