Wine Description for Pinot de Diel Sekt Brut N°004 Tirage 2023 by Diel

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow with elegant, fine-beaded mousse – a visually convincing example of artisanally crafted German producer sparkling wine.
Nose
Remarkably expressive for an entry-level sparkling wine: yellow and red apple, pear and mirabelle plum dominate the fruit spectrum, accompanied by lemon zest and a hint of woodruff. Beneath this lies a fine mineral spice – typical of the Nahe – along with discreet yeast notes and herbs that lend complexity and depth.
Palate
Here the full class of this sparkling wine reveals itself: the texture is floral and delicate, yet with underlying power and intensity. White-fleshed fruits and abundant juiciness characterise the attack, followed by a fine mineral spice. The perlage is precise and silky, the pressure pleasant, the finish elegant. Alongside the yeast, notes of almond and hazelnut pastry emerge – a sign of the over two-year yeast ageing.
Finish
Medium-length and fresh, with persistent fruit and fine mineral spice that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
From the weathered soils of the Rotliegendes on the Nahe – geologically ancient, iron-rich sandstone weathering that imparts characteristic minerality and tension to the wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A cuvée of approximately 60% Pinot Blanc and 40% Pinot Noir. Base wine aged in stainless steel, tirage 2023, over two years on yeast, hand-riddled and disgorged in June 2025 with a subtle dosage of 4 g/l – traditional bottle fermentation at the highest level.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to oysters, scallops, pike-perch with herb butter, asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, goat’s cheese or smoked trout. Also an excellent choice as an aperitif.
Special Features
An „entry-level sparkling wine at a very high level“ that proves German sparkling wine craftsmanship with Burgundy grape varieties can set international standards. The price-to-pleasure ratio is exceptional.
