Wine description for naked red non-vintage 375ml by Heinrich
- Colour & Appearance
- Deep cherry red with a profound, almost impenetrable core and a brightened, ruby-coloured rim – a wine that promises intrigue from the moment it touches the glass.
- Nose
- The nose opens dark and seductive: cassis, elderberry and blackberry surge forward first, followed by a lively sour cherry. The fruit is compact, yet never heavy – it remains crisp and fresh. An elegant hint of liquorice and anise brings a cool, ethereal note into play, whilst juniper and green pepper provide a fine, invigorating spice. Garden herbs round out the bouquet with a pleasantly refreshing lightness.
- Palate
- On the palate, the Naked Red reveals its most accessible side: juicy and silky at once, with a remarkable slenderness that propels the drinking experience. The fruit shifts towards raspberry and above all sour cherry – bright, lively, uncomplicated beauty. The spice retreats into the background, the fun factor takes centre stage. Rarely does red wine bring such joy.
- Finish
- Medium-length, fresh and with a pleasant grip that invites the next sip. Not a wine for analysing – a wine for drinking.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes hail from two fundamentally different worlds around Lake Neusiedl: In the west, limestone and slate from the hillside vineyards of the Leitha Mountains shape the character, whilst in the east, the gravel soils of the Parndorf Plate and the humus-rich heath soil provide depth and fullness. These contrasts make the Naked Red an authentic portrait of Burgenland.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A non-vintage cuvée of Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch as dominant varieties, complemented by Sankt Laurent. Harvesting takes place from late August to mid-September. Spontaneous fermentation on the skins – partly in wooden fermentation vessels, partly in stainless steel tanks – followed by maturation in wooden fermentation vessels for more than one year. Pure craftsmanship, without frills.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- An ideal companion to grilled sausages, boiled beef, pasta with tomato sauce or a rustic antipasti platter. Also wonderful on its own – lightly chilled – a delight.
- Special Features
- The name says it all: naked – unclothed, direct, without pretence. With just 12.5% alcohol and this playful lightness, the Naked Red is a counterpoint to the heavy-handed red wine world. Rarely has restraint been so inviting.
