Wine information

The Premiers Crus of Maranges still belong to the great unknowns of the Côte de Beaune. They have only been so rated since 1989 and are located in the extreme south of the Côte de Beaune. They include vineyards from the communes of Cheilly-lés-Maranges, Dezize-lés-Maranges and Sampigny-lés-Maranges. Climat La Fussière covers almost 35 hectares, making it the largest cru in the appellation. The vineyard faces south and is mainly located on the slope itself at an altitude of between 290 and 350 metres. The soils tend to have white, stony surfaces resting on blue marl. Fermentation of the largely destemmed grapes is done with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrel and tank. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally. The new wood content is around 20 %. Sulphur is only added in the last six months in the barrel, and several times with minimal doses, so that the wine never exceeds 35 mg/l in total.

Color

slightly transparent garnet red

Nose

Thomas Moreys Maranges 1er Cru 2019 is a dark spicy Pinot Noir with a ripe, dark berry fruit, with cherries and plums. It appears ripe and juicy at the same time as transparent and fresh. In the background one finds notes of undergrowth and foliage.

Palate

On the palate the La Fussière fruitier than in the fragrance, but in a very pleasant and elegant way. There is a juicy ripe fruit of dark cherries, a few blackberries, dark raspberries and also a few plums. The acidity is present and lively, the tannin grippy and fine. The Pinot Noir shows a firm structure and is earthier and darker than the other red Burgundies from Thomas Morey's portfolio, but always silky and round.
