Wine description for L’extravertie 2020+Réserve Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 3000ml Doppel-Magnum by Pertois-Lebrun
A Blanc de Blancs that takes its name seriously: L’extravertie – the extrovert – is the most accessible expression from the house of Pertois-Lebrun in Cramant, and yet a Champagne of genuine substance. The family cultivates around eight hectares of Grand Cru parcels planted exclusively with Chardonnay in Chouilly, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant. Chalk soils, low yields, hand harvesting, at least three years on the lees and a radically low dosage: the result is a wine that combines the energy of a young vintage with the depth of reserve wines – lively, precise, without any embellishment. In the double magnum, it also matures with particular serenity.
- Colour & appearance
- Pale golden yellow with a fine mousse and an intense, densely rising bead.
- Nose
- An appealing oscillation between yeasty notes – butterscotch, a hint of Stollen – and elegant fruit: white peach, Nashi pear, lime zest. Alongside this, blossoms of apple and almond, daisies, plus green accents of kaffir lime leaf, wood sorrel and lemon balm. Balanced, charming, inviting.
- Palate
- Powerful and threaded through with precise acidity, yet remarkably accessible – not on the austere, steely side, but lively, youthful, fresh. A Champagne for both worlds: enough tension for connoisseurs, enough openness for every enthusiast.
- Finish
- A herbal finish, with clover setting the tone – freshly picked as well as dried. Clean, long, with a fine herbal streak at the end.
- Terroir & origin
- Côte des Blancs, Champagne: Grand Cru vineyard sites in Chouilly (deep chalk), Le Mesnil-sur-Oger (legendary minerality) and Cramant (particular elegance). Each parcel is vinified separately to preserve its terroir.
- Grape variety & vinification
- 100% Chardonnay. Base wines in stainless steel, partly in old wooden casks, without the wood dominating. At least three years on the lees, dosage Extra Brut. 12.0% vol., dry.
- Food recommendations
- With oysters and sole fillet ceviche, with fresh goat’s cheese and fresh herbs, asparagus with hollandaise sauce or simply with Comté during an aperitif gathering.
- Special features
- Grower Champagne in its purest form: the cuvée combines the freshness of the vintage with the complexity of reserve wines – accessible without sacrificing substance. The double magnum format (3000 ml) grants it additional freshness and calm maturation.
