Wine Description for Gevrey Chambertin „La Justice“ AOP 2022 by Jérôme Galeyrand
- Colour & Appearance
- Deep garnet red with youthful luminosity – a Pinot Noir that reveals its Burgundian origins in the glass.
- Nose
- Both open-hearted and transparent, this Gevrey-Chambertin presents radiant fruit. Violet lilac forms the floral top note, underpinned by liquorice, star anise and clove. These are joined by cacao nibs and a citrus freshness of mandarin peel. The nose combines concentration with elegance – Galeyrand allows the terroir to speak without masking it.
- Palate
- Silky, polished, hedonistic: the wine glides across the palate with an almost seductive texture. The fruit is profound, the extract juicy, the phenolics gently contouring the edge of the tongue. The tannins work like the finest powder, fine-grained and polished, lending the wine additional sweetness. Not a gramme too much, no rough edges – pure, polished elegance at 13% alcohol that never feels intrusive.
- Finish
- Nonchalant and persistent with a fine resonance that allows the spice notes and silky texture to linger long afterwards.
- Terroir & Origin
- The „La Justice“ vineyard site in Gevrey-Chambertin has been organically certified by Galeyrand since 2019. The career-changer from the Loire, who came to Burgundy in the 1990s and trained under Alain Burguet and Vincent Geantet, now farms 5.25 hectares with particular attention to vine genetics.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Pinot Noir in pure form, vinified without technological gimmicks: no industrial yeast, no fining agents, no enzymes, only as much sulphur as necessary. Hand-harvested, biodynamic farming following lunar cycles, ploughing instead of herbicides. Galeyrand combines great terroir, remarkable vine genetics and respectful vinification.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- The silky texture and spicy aromatics harmonise beautifully with stuffed red peppers, Sichuan chilli chicken or fried prawns with mala flavour. The fine tannins and fruit intensity handle Asian heat with ease.
- Special Features
- A village wine bearing the signature of a perfectionist – Galeyrand himself calls it „the Richard Gere among village wines“. Transparency and concentration are not mutually exclusive here, but complement each other to create a complete work of art.
