Tasting note
Character
The “Orane” 2022 presents itself as a quiet but profound ambassador of Burgundy. Shaped by Jérôme Galeyrand’s purist signature, this white wine displays a fine elegance and a wonderfully clear, unadulterated fruit. It eschews loud, superficial effects, captivating instead with its sheer drinkability, a delicate freshness, and a subtle, inviting aroma that comes entirely without any technological mask.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes for this Chardonnay originate from the vineyards of the northern Côte de Nuits, where Galeyrand’s domaine is based in Saint-Philibert. The soils of this region leave a defining mark on the wine. Galeyrand farms his parcels with immense respect for nature – 70 per cent organically, with the remainder managed according to sustainable principles. By avoiding pesticides and relying solely on mechanical ploughing around the vines, he succeeds in bringing the pure identity of the soil unadulterated into the bottle.
Grape Variety & Vinification
This single-varietal Chardonnay is vinified with minimal oenological intervention. True to Galeyrand’s credo of “terroir transparency”, industrial yeasts, enzymes, and fining agents are completely avoided. The wine matures for 12 months in French oak barrels in his small, artisanal cellar. The proportion of new oak is kept deliberately minimal to perfectly preserve the delicate fruit structure of the grape variety and the vibrancy of the 2022 vintage. Sulphur additions are kept extremely moderate.
Food Pairings
Thanks to its fine structure and elegant balance, this Chardonnay is an outstanding partner for delicate fish dishes such as pan-fried pike-perch or trout à la Meunière. It also pairs excellently with poultry in a light cream sauce as well as mild, matured semi-hard cheeses.
