Wine Description for Vouvray Pétillant Brut 2017 by Huet

Colour & Appearance
Luminous straw yellow with golden reflections and a fine-bubbled, persistent mousse. The perlage rises evenly and elegantly – a visual promise of quality.
Nose
A fascinating aromatic panorama that explores the full spectrum of Chenin Blanc. Candied ginger and acacia honey lead the bouquet, followed by a complex fruit palette: khaki, peach compote and mango meet the tart freshness of grapefruit and mandarin. Herbal notes such as lemon balm, marjoram and oregano lend ethereal finesse, whilst turmeric, Madras curry and white pepper provide exotic spice. Threading through everything: a pronounced limestone minerality.
Palate
The attack is surprisingly powerful and masculine. The mousseux initially carries a creamy fullness before the carbonation breaks through with invigorating freshness. The exotic spices now dominate the fruit and impart a spicy, almost piquant character. The limestone texture of the terroir is haptically present and clothes the mouth with mineral precision.
Finish
Long, spicy and of impressive minerality. The fruit opens in the aftertaste, whilst the chalky structure resonates for minutes – a wine that invites contemplation.
Terroir & Origin
Domaine Huet ranks among the legendary producers of the Loire. The vineyards in Vouvray grow on tuffeau (limestone), which gives the wine its characteristic minerality and ageing potential. Biodynamic viticulture for decades.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chenin Blanc, made using the traditional method. The 2017 vintage produced ripe, concentrated grapes. The prise-de-mousse takes place in the bottle, the wine aged on the lees – a Pétillant Brut with only subtle dosage.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The exotic spice demands equally exotic partners: scallops with ginger butter, Thai curry with prawns, roasted quail with honey-spice glaze or aged Comté. Also a revelation with sushi and dim sum.
Special Characteristics
A pétillant with the complexity of a great still wine. The 13% alcohol and the tart brut dosage make it a serious food companion that far exceeds aperitif qualities. Drinking well now, but also age-worthy.
