Wine Description for French Disko VdF rouge 2024 1500ml Magnum by Matassa

Character
Tom Lubbe of Matassa is among the pioneers of the natural wine movement in Roussillon. His „French Disko“ embodies the philosophy of an unadorned, living Cinsault – light-footed, fresh and with that irresistible drinkability that defines modern natural wines. At just 11% alcohol, this wine demonstrates that elegance and depth are not dependent on power. The magnum bottle underscores the festive, convivial character of this uncomplicated pleasure.
Terroir & Origin
Roussillon, wedged between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, offers exceptionally diverse terroir. Matassa cultivates old parcels with schist and granite soils that lend the wines mineral precision. The Tramontane, the cool north wind, ensures healthy grapes and preserves natural freshness. Tom Lubbe works according to biodynamic principles and lets the landscape speak through his wines – without oenological tricks, without additives.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Cinsault is experiencing a renaissance as a variety for elegant, highly drinkable red wines. Often underestimated, it delivers red fruit, floral notes and a silky texture at low alcohol levels. Lubbe vinifies with whole bunches, works without added sulphur or with minimal amounts, and allows the wine to ferment spontaneously. The result: a wine that radiates vitality and authenticity, transporting the fruit of the grape and the energy of the vintage unfiltered. The magnum size also promotes more harmonious maturation.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Cinsault calls for uncomplicated yet flavourful cuisine: charcuterie, terrine or rillettes pair beautifully. Equally suitable are grilled fish, tuna tataki or lightly roasted poultry. The wine’s freshness harmonises with Mediterranean vegetable dishes, ratatouille or aubergine gratin. Serve it lightly chilled at 14-16°C – an ideal wine for long summer evenings and convivial gatherings.
