Wine Description for Château de Pibarnon Rouge AOC 2020 1500ml Magnum by Château de Pibarnon

Colour & Appearance
Intense purple-red with luminous violet reflections – a wine that displays its youth and vitality right from the glass.
Nose
Seductively complex: An ethereal bouquet of lavender and roses merges with Mediterranean herbs such as mint and juniper. Beneath lies a lush fruit layer of ripe cherries, plums and blackberries, accented by elderberries and blood oranges. A hint of vanilla rounds off the aromatic spectrum – modern in interpretation, yet with a Provençal soul.
Palate
After adequate decanting, this Bandol reveals itself as a true charmer. The Mourvèdre dominance brings pronounced acidity and present tannin, yet the fruit of black cherry and plum is so ripe and concentrated that it balances the structure with ease. Liquorice, cinnamon and vanilla from barrel ageing harmonise with a hint of tonka bean, violets and black pepper. A cool, fresh vein runs through the elegant body and lends the wine remarkable finesse despite its 14.5% alcohol.
Finish
Long, cool and precise with lingering fruit and spice notes that resonate for minutes afterwards.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyards of Pibarnon lie in a natural amphitheatre overlooking the Mediterranean, terraced on clay, limestone and Triassic chalk. The finest parcels at 250 metres altitude benefit from maritime influences and cool nights – ideal conditions for late-ripening Mourvèdre.
Grape Variety & Vinification
90% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache (also Cinsault according to the label). Low yields of 30 hl/ha, three-week fermentation, followed by 20 months ageing in barriques, tonneaux and foudres of varying origins – tailored parcel by parcel. Organic viticulture with biodynamic approaches under Eric de Saint Victor.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Rib eye medium rare with rosemary butter, lamb rack from the grill with thyme and rosemary, wild mushroom ragout or robust Mediterranean braised dishes.
Special Features
The magnum bottle promises even more harmonious maturation. A Vin de Garde that is already accessible when young, yet can easily age for 10-15 years.
