Wine description for Foradori Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2024 1500ml Magnum by Foradori

Character
A red wine of cool, dark presence: violets and wild blackberries over wet slate, accompanied by an almost saline minerality that traces the glass all the way back to the Dolomites. Juicy rather than heavy, with a freshness that tastes of the mountains it comes from. The magnum bottle grants this young vintage additional calm and time to mature – a wine to share around a long table.
Terroir & Origin
The Campo Rotaliano in Trentino is a geological curiosity: a valley plain wedged between three-thousand-metre peaks, where the river Noce has deposited limestone, porphyry and gneiss from the Dolomites over millennia. By day the rock faces reflect the sun, by night cool mountain air streams through the valley. It is precisely this contrast that shapes the wines: the fruit and warmth of the day meet the tautness of the night.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Teroldego – once so esteemed that it was poured at the Council of Trent – nearly disappeared in the twentieth century, ruined by mass yields. From 1984 onwards, Elisabetta Foradori rescued the variety through meticulous clonal and massal selection; today around 80 per cent of the 28 hectares are planted with this vine, and the estate is Demeter-certified. Instead of barriques, Foradori relies on Spanish clay amphorae (tinajas), in which the wine and must may breathe for months – wood, as the estate discovered, overwhelmed the Teroldego, whereas clay lets it speak. Since 2013, her son Emilio has continued the winemaking with a precise hand.
Food Pairings
The dark fruit and cool acidity call for honest, robust cooking: grilled leg of lamb with rosemary, Boeuf Bourguignon, polenta with game ragù or pappardelle with mushrooms. With mature mountain cheese too – such as a Tyrolean Graukäse like the one produced by the estate’s own dairy – the Teroldego reveals its alpine origins at their finest.
