Wine Description for Granato Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2021 1500ml Magnum by Foradori
- Colour & Appearance
- Deep, dark ruby red with an almost impenetrable core – a visual statement of the concentration and density this wine embodies.
- Nose
- The Granato 2021 presents itself generously and expansively: pomegranate (naturally), mulberries, blackberries and elderberry dominate the aromatic spectrum. These are joined by black cherries and dried plums. Subtle floral notes of mallow, hibiscus and violet lend the bouquet elegance and complexity. Still youthfully closed, either decanting is recommended or – better still – patience.
- Palate
- Silky, velvety, opulent – the Granato proves its sovereignty on the palate. The dark fruitiness of the nose returns, oscillating between powerful ecstasy and surprisingly delicate finesse. The extract-rich fruit is carried by noble tannins and an aristocratic acidity structure that give the wine backbone and tension. Despite its concentration, it never feels heavy or jammy.
- Finish
- Majestic in length, with lingering fruit echoes and fine-grained tannins that promise substance and ageing potential.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Campo Rotaliano, an indentation of the Adige Valley between two mountain ridges, is the home of Granato. The Noce river has deposited limestone, granite and porphyry scree over centuries – a mineral-rich alluvial plain of gravel and pebbles that gives the wine its particular concentration.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Teroldego from approximately four hectares across three vineyard sites in Mezzolombardo, grown on old pergola systems. Spontaneous fermentation in large, open vats, followed by 15 months‘ maturation in tonneau and a further 15 months‘ bottle age before release. Annual production: approximately 20,000 bottles.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Braised beef cheeks, game ragout, venison loin with lingonberries, aged Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino. Also an excellent choice with Brasato al Barolo or Ossobuco.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle promises even more harmonious maturation. Foradori recommends a minimum of five years‘ bottle age – advice that should be taken seriously. Granato is the undisputed ambassador of the Teroldego grape.
