Wine Description for Foam White Petnat 2022 by Meinklang

Colour & Appearance
A slightly hazy orange-red with bright and brown reflections – a vibrant, unfiltered picture of wild nature. The intense mousseux rises with fine bubbles and already announces what follows: a wine that refuses to be tamed.
Nose
The nose is complex and marked by distinctive warmth. Rooibos tea and rosehip dominate the scene, flanked by orange zest, cinnamon, juniper and white pepper. Beneath shimmer baked apple, pear compote and caramelised quince – aromas that evoke autumn kitchens. Wild garden herbs provide freshness and contrast.
Palate
On the palate, the carbonation unfolds with vigour and lends the wine remarkable fullness and smoothness. The spice intensifies, the fruit becomes more angular. Abundant tannins give the wine a masculine, rustic structure – a quality that suits it excellently. Then the acidity kicks in: precise, almost surgical, it cuts through fruit and tannin with a clean stroke.
Finish
Long and dry, with returning notes of orange zest and herbal tea. The phenolic structure carries the aftertaste and maintains the tension until the end.
Terroir & Origin
The Grauburgunder comes from the Graupert vineyard site on Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland – a vineyard left to its own devices. No pruning, no intervention. Nature decides.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Five days of skin fermentation, bottling with 20 g/l residual sugar during active fermentation – entirely without additives. Seven months of yeast ageing in the bottle, followed by artisanal disgorging by hand. A true Pétillant Naturel, uncompromising and honest.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The tannic structure and spicy depth of this wine demand substance: braised beef tongue with chorizo, plum and chilli vinaigrette is an ideal match. Equally convincing: red lentil stew with artichoke and crème fraîche or a hearty lasagne Bolognese.
Special Characteristics
A wine that deliberately moves outside every convention. Not a Grauburgunder in the classical sense – but an orange-coloured, vibrant natural phenomenon from the heart of Seewinkel. For drinkers who appreciate individuality.
