Wine description for Fleur d’Emely Sekt Brut 2024 by Andres & Mugler

Character
A Muskateller sparkling wine of refreshing presence: vinified dry, with 12.0% alcohol and an aromatic profile reminiscent of fresh vine blossoms, citrus zest and a hint of white peach. Traditional bottle fermentation lends it a fine mousse and a structure that extends far beyond the mere aromatic potential of the variety. There is no cloying cliché here, but rather a precise, light-footed sparkling wine with clear contours.
Terroir & Origin
Hailing from the Palatinate, more precisely from the area around Deidesheim and Maikammer, this wine comes from two winemakers who have been working together on their sparkling wine project since 1989. Michael Andres and Steffen Mugler farm their vines biodynamically – certified since 2010 – and regard this philosophy as the foundation of all their decisions. In vineyard sites such as the steep, sandy Deidesheimer Mäushöhle or the Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad, the grapes grow on soils that favour finesse and minerality. Beehives in the vineyards bear witness to a holistic approach that takes biodiversity seriously.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Muskateller is one of the oldest and most aromatic grape varieties in Europe. In the hands of Andres & Mugler, it becomes a sparkling wine that undergoes traditional bottle fermentation and is allowed to mature on the lees for between 12 and 48 months. The duo uses only about two-thirds of the pressed must – a quality standard that is reflected in the texture. The result is a sparkling wine that combines the variety’s typical floral and grapey aromatics with a grapey-mineral depth, without ever becoming heavy.
Food Pairings
The floral aromatics and dry structure make this sparkling wine a versatile companion at the table. It pairs well with asparagus with hollandaise sauce, goat’s cheese tartlets or sashimi with yuzu dressing. It also shows its best side alongside Asian dishes with coriander and lime or a light fennel salad with orange segments. Those preferring something more classic might opt for roast chicken with lemon thyme – the freshness of the sparkling wine cuts elegantly through the richness.
