Wine Description for Clos du Bourg sec 2024 by Huet

Character
Domaine Huet is among the reference estates for Chenin Blanc on the Loire. The Clos du Bourg sec embodies the dry interpretation of this great vineyard site in Vouvray – a wine of impressive precision and minerality. The „sec“ version showcases the purist side of Chenin Blanc, without the opulence of its noble sweet counterparts, yet with taut structure and enormous ageing potential.
Terroir & Origin
The Clos du Bourg is one of three legendary monopoly vineyard sites of the Huet estate. The vineyards sit atop tuffeau limestone plateaus above the Loire near Vouvray. This porous limestone retains water and gives the wine its characteristic saline minerality. The south-facing aspect and sheltered location ensure optimal ripeness, whilst cool nights preserve the vibrant acidity. For decades, Huet has worked biodynamically – a philosophy reflected in the authenticity and vitality of the wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chenin Blanc is one of the world’s most versatile grape varieties, and on the Loire it achieves its highest expression. In dry form, the variety typically displays notes of green apple, quince, white flowers and that unmistakable honey-wax character. Huet vinifies traditionally, with natural yeasts and slow maturation in old wooden barrels, which lends the wines complexity without overwhelming the fruit. The 13% alcohol content indicates fully ripe grapes – a sign of the warm 2024 vintage.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The taut acidity and minerality make this wine an ideal companion for seafood, particularly oysters and scallops. Classically, it harmonises beautifully with river fish in beurre blanc, Loire Valley goat’s cheese or poultry in cream sauce. The texture and complexity also allow for more sophisticated pairings with calf’s sweetbreads or fine vegetables such as asparagus.
