Wine Description for „Clos de la Roche“ Grand Cru AOC 2022 1500ml Magnum by Hubert Lignier

Character
The Clos de la Roche from Hubert Lignier represents Burgundian Pinot Noir artistry in its most concentrated form. As one of the great Grand Crus of Morey-Saint-Denis, this wine unites power and finesse, structure and elegance. The magnum bottle promises an even slower, more harmonious development than the standard bottle – a format that does justice to the ageing potential of this extraordinary terroir.
Terroir & Origin
The Clos de la Roche extends across 16.9 hectares and forms the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis. The parcels lie on mid-slope terrain with calcareous clay soils, which give the wine its characteristic mineral tension. Hubert Lignier, whose family has been rooted in Morey-Saint-Denis for generations, manages his parcels with artisanal precision and respect for nature. The 2022 vintage presents itself in Burgundy as classically cool with excellent freshness and concentration.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir finds ideal conditions in Clos de la Roche to unfold its full complexity. Lignier works with traditional Burgundian methods: careful hand-harvesting, moderate yields and maturation in French oak barrels with restrained wood influence. The focus lies on terroir expression and fruit clarity. With 13.5% alcohol, the wine shows itself classically balanced, without appearing over-extracted. The dry orientation underscores the Burgundian philosophy of elegance before opulence.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine of this calibre demands equally thoughtful cuisine: game dishes such as venison loin or pheasant, braised beef, Coq au Vin or Bresse pigeon harmonise perfectly with the structure and complexity. Aged Comté or Époisses are also classic Burgundian companions. The magnum is excellent for special occasions with multiple guests.
