Wine Description for Ciringa Fosilni Breg 2024 by Tement

Character
The Ciringa Fosilni Breg is one of the most precise expressions of Styrian Sauvignon Blanc – not a loud, intrusive wine, but an expression of depth, minerality and terroir authenticity. Tement, one of the most reliable addresses in South Styria, has understood for decades how to bring elegance and tension into harmony. This wine is not a showpiece – it is a promise of place.
Terroir & Origin
South Styria ranks among the most exciting white wine regions in Central Europe. The vineyard site Zieregg – in Slovenian “Ciringa” – lies directly on the border with Slovenia and belongs to the most significant individual vineyard sites in the entire region. The addition “Fosilni Breg” (in English: “fossil hill”) refers to the characteristic Opok soils: calcareous, fossil-rich marl soils that give the wine its distinctive structure and saline minerality. The continental climate with cool nights preserves the natural acidity and lends the wine its precision.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Sauvignon Blanc has found a home in South Styria that is unrivalled anywhere in the world. On the Opok soils of Zieregg, the variety loses its sometimes intrusive aromatics and gains in complexity, texture and depth. Tement relies on meticulous, artisanal winemaking that lets the terroir speak without suppressing the fruit. The 2024 vintage – following a climatically challenging yet promising year – should be characterised by good acidity structure and lively tension.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The cool minerality and fresh structure of this wine make it ideal for accompanying pike-perch with cucumber vegetables, scallops with pea purée or a classic Styrian salmon trout ceviche. It also unfolds its elegant pairing qualities with goat’s cheese, white asparagus with hollandaise sauce or a light vegetable terrine. A wine that convinces at the table just as it captivates in the glass.
