Wine Description for Catarratto Costabisaccia IGT Terre Siciliane 2024 by Vino Lauria

Colour & Appearance
Radiant golden yellow in the glass – a promise of Sicilian sunshine.
Nose
An aromatic rush that immediately transports you southwards: mango, pineapple and banana dominate, joined by juicy orange. Beneath lies a fascinating Mediterranean herbal spice of sage, eucalyptus and chamomile. The 24-hour skin contact fermentation reveals itself in subtle notes of vanilla, white chocolate and a hint of light tobacco – complex and multifaceted.
Palate
Here the Catarratto reveals its true character: the juicy yellow fruit is counterbalanced by a herbal, almost saline spice that is typical of this indigenous grape variety. The invigorating acidity lends the wine, with its 12.5% alcohol, a remarkable freshness and drinkability. Structured, with lovely depth and surprising length – far more than a simple summer wine.
Finish
Medium to long, with lingering herbal spice and mineral precision. The yeast ageing provides a creamy texture that elegantly rounds off the finish.
Terroir & Origin
The 30-year-old vineyard Costabisaccia sits at 600 metres elevation in the hills around Grisì, south-east of Alcamo. The north-facing aspect preserves freshness, whilst the altitude ensures cool nights – ideal conditions for age-worthy Catarratto wines with clear varietal character.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel following 24-hour skin contact, followed by six months on the lees. This artisanal vinification allows the Catarratto to retain its authentic character and underscores the terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile food companion: perfect with grilled swordfish, pasta with sardines, fried squid, goat’s cheese or Sicilian arancini. Also a revelation with artichokes and fennel and orange salad.
Special Features
Exceptional value for money. An authentic ambassador for Sicily, demonstrating that Catarratto is capable of far more than anonymous blending wine. A genuine discovery for those who venture off the beaten path.
