Wine Description for Bourgogne Côte d’Or „Les Grandes Gouttes“ Sans Sulfite Ajouté AOC 2021 by Rougeot Père & Fils

Character
An unsulphited Chardonnay from Burgundy that combines the courage of naturalness with the classical elegance of the Côte d’Or. Rougeot Père & Fils takes a purist approach here, placing pure varietal character and the mineral imprint of the terroir at the forefront. The designation „Sans Sulfite Ajouté“ signals an uncompromising signature that largely forgoes oenological interventions and preserves the wine’s authentic expressive power.
Terroir & Origin
The Côte d’Or forms the heart of Burgundy and stands worldwide for uncompromising quality in Chardonnay cultivation. The Bourgogne Côte d’Or appellation was only created in 2017 and allows winemakers to blend grapes from various vineyard sites on the famous Golden Slopes. The chalky soils shape the minerality, whilst the continental climate with cool nights ensures precise aromatics. The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was marked by spring frosts, which led to reduced yields and concentrated grapes.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay reveals its noblest facet in Burgundy – between stony freshness and creamy texture. The absence of added sulphur requires impeccable grapes and meticulous cellar work. This vinification method emphasises vibrant fruit and lends the wine a distinctive texture, often with slightly oxidative notes reminiscent of roasted nuts or brioche. The moderate alcohol content of 13% underscores the Burgundian finesse, where strength is replaced by precision.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to scallops, pan-fried turbot or Poulet de Bresse with morel sauce. The natural vinification harmonises beautifully with aged cheeses such as Comté or a creamy Chaource. This wine also reveals its strengths with mushroom risotto or sweetbreads. The texture certainly suits richer preparations with butter and cream as well.
