Fine notes of citrus fruits, white peach and green apple, underpinned by subtle minerality and floral hints.

  3. Palate

Fresh and precise on the palate with vibrant acidity, saline minerality and a clear, linear structure that leads into a long, pure finish.

  4. Character

A wine of astonishing transparency and purity, bearing the signature of Pierre-Henri Rougeot – uncompromising, full of energy and of great finesse.

Ideal with delicate fish dishes such as pan-fried pike-perch, with seafood or with light poultry in a delicate cream sauce.

  6. Notes

The classic version of the Grandes Gouttes from the southern edge of Meursault: aged in cask without sulphur and given a touch of sulphur only at bottling, hence the classic label. Spontaneously fermented, from organically certified vineyards in the second year of biodynamic conversion.

Tasting note

Character
A Chardonnay that bears Pierre-Henri Rougeot’s signature: the shift from quantity to crystalline purity. Dry, with vibrant energy and a mineral sharpness that recalls the cool limestone of Meursault. No exaggerated ageing, but purism in its purest form – at 13.0% vol. certainly structured, yet never heavy.
Terroir & Origin
The Les Grandes Gouttes vineyard site lies on the southern edge of Meursault, below Charmes on the border with Puligny, on a limestone base; it brings the cool, limestone-influenced character of the Côte de Beaune into the glass. Domaine Rougeot Père & Fils cultivates around 13 hectares in Meursault, Monthélie, Saint-Romain, Pommard and Volnay; grandfather Hubert, mayor of Meursault for 25 years, added Volnay and Pommard to the estate. In 2016, after two decades, the domaine ceased sales to supermarkets, and since then its focus has been exclusively on quality. The family estate was once the orchard of the Hospices de Beaune. In the cellar, Pierre-Henri Rougeot deliberately allows the must to oxidise during pressing, as he sees this as the foundation for working without sulphur.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay from Burgundy – here in an expression that consciously dispenses with intervention. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts is standard practice; there is no bâtonnage, and the wine is neither filtered nor fined. Rougeot uses 228-litre Burgundy casks sparingly, keeping the proportion of new wood low. No sulphur is used during maturation; this version received a small amount only at bottling. The result is a transparency that emphasises the crystalline character of the fruit and the saline length. From the same vineyard site there is also a version without any added sulphur bearing a diagonal label, whereas this one carries the classic label.
Food Pairings
The mineral sharpness and vibrant acidity call for dishes with substance: zander pan-fried on the skin with beurre blanc, or chicken fricassee with morels. A mature Comté or Époisses also finds a worthy partner in the wine’s saline length. If you prefer something simpler: asparagus with hollandaise sauce or a warm potato salad with bacon – dishes that do not overshadow the wine’s structure but give it room to breathe.
