Wine Description for Driftwood Box: 2020 Spätburgunder 2020 Old Vines 2019 Vineyard Site Wine 2250ml by Bertram-Baltes

Colour & Appearance
The three Spätburgunder present themselves in varying shades from pale ruby red to deep garnet red, depending on vintage and origin. The 2019 vineyard site wine displays the most intense colour depth, whilst the younger 2020 Spätburgunder glows with vibrant freshness in the glass.
Nose
The package reveals the full spectrum of Burgundian elegance from the Ahr: cherry, wild strawberry and redcurrant dominate the younger wines, whilst the old vines display forest floor, fine spice notes and undergrowth, revealing a more complex, terroir-driven aromatics. Subtle smoke notes and minerality lend depth.
Palate
On the palate, the quality of the 2020 vintage shines through with taut acidity and fine fruit, whilst the 2019 vineyard site wine impresses with silky tannins and mineral precision. The old vines bring concentration and structure, without sacrificing Burgundian finesse. All three wines share an elegant lightness combined with substance.
Finish
Medium to long, with fine fruit and mineral aftertaste. The wines leave a saline, almost stony impression that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The Ahr, Germany’s smallest red wine region, is renowned for its slate soils and unique microclimate. Bertram-Baltes manages parcels in the finest vineyard sites, where old vines on sparse soils produce wines of remarkable precision.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Pan-seared duck breast, Coq au Vin, aged Comté, game terrine, mushroom risotto or rare roasted veal fillet. The versatility of the three wines allows pairings from light starters through to main courses.
Special Features
This collection emerged from necessity following the devastating flood disaster of 2021, which severely affected Julia Bertram’s and Benedikt Baltes‘ winery. The „Driftwood Box“ represents not only outstanding wine quality, but also the will to survive and resilience of one of the Ahr’s most talented winemaking couples. A moving testament to Burgundian elegance in the face of adversity.
