Wine Description for Les Grands Nots Brut Nature 2010 by Jeaunaux-Robin

Colour & Appearance
Pale golden yellow with fine, persistent mousse – a visual testament to over twelve years of bottle ageing.
Nose
Complex, multi-layered bouquet that elegantly reveals the barrel maturation. Initially surprising exotic notes of pineapple and mango, accompanied by citrus fruits, ripe pear and candied ginger. Beneath these unfold stone fruits, vanilla and puff pastry, whilst subtle oxidative notes of beeswax and honey underscore the wine’s maturity.
Palate
The Champagne initially presents itself as smooth and mature with mellow fruit, ripe citrus fruits and candied lemon zest. Vanilla, puff pastry and brioche clothe the palate with pleasant fullness. Then comes the surprising interplay: a fresh, insistent acidity swirls through the fruit aromas and reveals the impressive vitality of this mature Champagne – a textbook example of the balance between maturity and liveliness.
Finish
Long-lasting and multi-faceted. Salted caramel, iodine, apple and citrus zest linger on the palate for minutes – a remarkable finale that underscores the complexity of this extraordinary Champagne.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from vines over 50 years old on the Côte de Sézanne with its characteristic chalky, limestone and clay soils – a terroir that lends this Champagne its mineral depth and structure.
Grape Variety & Vinification
An evenly balanced blend of one-third each Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Spontaneous fermentation and ten months‘ maturation in used Burgundy pièces. Brut Nature – zero grams of dosage at disgorgement in July 2022. Limited production of just 1,432 bottles.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Excellent with calf’s liver with spiced apples and marjoram, Rosa Bianca aubergine with strawberries and turnips or meadow herb shepherd’s cheese ravioli with truffles.
Special Characteristics
An authentic grower Champagne that proves the Côte de Sézanne can produce exceptional vintage Champagnes. The extended bottle ageing and uncompromising Brut Nature style make this wine an honest, characterful Champagne for connoisseurs.
