Wine Description for Zero Brut Nature Base 2017 375ml by Tarlant

Colour & Appearance
Rich straw yellow with golden reflections. The perlage displays itself finely and evanescent – a first hint of the long yeast ageing of over five years.
Nose
Here the maturity reveals itself: dried herbs, summer meadows and hay with alpine spice dominate. To these are added freshly baked baguette, butter brioche and Tarte Tatin – bready, nutty-yeasty, never sweet. Roasted almonds underscore the spice. The fruit remains deliberately restrained: mirabelle plum, ripe pear, yellow apple, a hint of unripe pineapple. Herbal freshness from clover, parsley and lemon thyme lend the bouquet delicate definition.
Palate
Uncompromisingly dry and purist. The perlage provides brief lift, then a pronounced acidity takes command and pulls the wine taut into the length. Saline-mineral, cool, full of herbal freshness – the structure feels linear and energetically invigorating. The fruit remains subtle, almost unripe in the background.
Finish
Long, salt-driven, with citrus notes and a freshness reminiscent of tequila. Purist, clear, uncompromising.
Terroir & Origin
Exclusively the family Tarlant’s own vineyards in Champagne, twelfth generation. Benoit and Melanie Tarlant manage their parcels with traditional care – you can taste it.
Grape Variety & Vinification
32% each of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, supplemented by 4% of the rare grape varieties Pinot Blanc, Arbanne and Petit Meslier. Base 2017 with reserve wines, second fermentation April 2018, disgorging only in July 2023 – over five years on the lees. Brut Nature: 0g/l dosage. This is Benoit’s signature: give it time, embellish nothing.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Oysters, scallops, sashimi, ceviche, grilled monkfish with herbs, goat’s cheese, Comté. The saline minerality calls for seafood or purist cuisine.
Special Features
The Zero Brut Nature is Tarlant’s entry-level champagne – yet „entry-level“ is understatement here. The long yeast ageing, the zero dosage and the courage to use rare grape varieties make this champagne a statement for purism and terroir honesty. No concessions, only character.
