Wine Description for Vinupetra Rosso DOC 2024 by I Vigneri di Salvo Foti

Character
The Vinupetra Rosso DOC 2024 is an expression of Sicilian wine culture in its purest form – artisanal, terroir-driven and shaped by deep conviction. Salvo Foti, one of the most significant advocates of authentic Sicily, creates wines with his cooperative I Vigneri that seem less made than discovered. Dry and possessed of vibrant structure, this wine combines elegance with the unmistakable energy of the volcano.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes hail from the sphere of influence of Mount Etna, that fascinating volcanic massif which has redefined Sicily’s wine world over recent decades. The volcanic soils – rich in minerals, poor in organic matter – lend the wines a distinctive tension and saline depth. The continental highland climate at Etna, with cool nights and intense sunshine, preserves the freshness and finesse rarely encountered in wines from lower Sicilian sites.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The blend of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Grenache reflects the historical diversity of Sicilian viticulture. The Nerello Mascalese provides structure, depth and that characteristic transparency which makes it comparable to Pinot Noir. The Nerello Cappuccio contributes body and colour, whilst Grenache brings aromatic warmth and accessibility. Foti’s philosophy – minimal intervention, respect for old vines and traditional methods – allows the terroir to speak without overworking it.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to the Sicilian table. Excellent with Pasta alla Norma, grilled swordfish or caponata. Equally compelling alongside grilled lamb, mature Pecorino cheeses or a rustic salumi platter. The vibrant acidity and moderate tannin make it an honest, unpretentious food wine with character.
