Colour & Appearance

Luminous, deep ruby red with violet reflections at the rim – the youthfulness of the 2020 vintage reveals itself in brilliant clarity and intensity.

Nose

Captivingly complex: dark cherry and cassis meld with notes of violet, graphite and fine cedarwood. Beneath these shimmer liquorice, black pepper and a subtle minerality reminiscent of wet slate. The biodynamic viticulture is reflected in the purity and precision of the aromas.

Palate

Powerful yet remarkably elegant. The wine displays a taut, silky tannin structure that caresses the palate without dominating. Dark fruits – particularly blackberry and plum – meet dark chocolate and a hint of tobacco. The acidity is vibrant, perfectly integrated, and lends the wine a dynamic tension. Despite its concentration, El Pisón never feels heavy; rather, it displays that balance which characterises great terroir wines.

Finish

Long, precise and mineral. The fruit fades gradually whilst spicy and stony notes persist – a finish that invites the next sip.

Terroir & Origin

El Pisón hails from the vineyard site of the same name, one of Rioja’s most prestigious parcels. The old Tempranillo vines grow on calcareous soils in the Rioja Alavesa subzone and benefit from a unique microclimate that unites freshness with concentration.

Grape Variety & Vinification

100% Tempranillo from biodynamically farmed vineyards. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, with Artadi exercising restraint – the wood serves maturation, not masking. The result: a wine that expresses its terroir unadulterated.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Herb-crusted lamb rack, grilled beef steak, Ibérico pork, braised veal cheeks or aged Manchego. The wine also harmonises beautifully with game dishes such as venison medallions.
