Wine Description for Coteaux Champenois Blanc Œil de Perdrix 2022 by Jérôme Blin
- Colour & Appearance
- Delicate, extremely pale pink – the classic Œil de Perdrix (“partridge’s eye”), typical of Pinot Meunier vinified as a white wine.
- Nose
- An immensely refined, discreetly restrained bouquet. In the glass, subtle notes of pencil shavings and aniseed merge with a tempting hint of candyfloss, framed by fresh lemon and zesty grapefruit.
- Palate
- On the palate, this still wine presents itself as ethereal, cool, and resolutely dry. A perceptible tannic grip and a razor-sharp acidity structure the palate. Alongside the dominant citrus fruit, there are notes of crisp apple, a touch of beeswax, a refined minerality, and a piquant, peppery finish.
- Terroir & Origin
- Hails from the Vallée de la Marne around Vincelles on the south bank of the Marne. In his vineyards, Jérôme Blin relies fully on natural viticulture using draft horses and sheep to give unadulterated expression to the complex parcels with soils of clay, limestone, sand, or flint.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A white-vinified Pinot Meunier from the 2022 vintage. Maturation of this still wine took place partly in terracotta vessels and partly in wooden casks, lending it its delicate texture.
- Food Pairings
- Excellent with scallop sashimi, seared veal cutlet, or subtly spiced seafood.
- Special Features
- Extremely rare delicacy: A total of merely 190 bottles of this masterful Coteaux Champenois were filled.
