Malvar

Malvar Grape – Historical Watercolour from Viala & Vermorel Ampélographie (1901)

Also known as: Lairen (Castilla-La Mancha)

Malvar is one of the forgotten white grape varieties of central Spain – indigenous to the dry plateaus around Madrid and long underestimated. The variety produces bone-dry, mineral wines with pronounced acidity and a clear, almost stony texture. In our selection, Malvar can be found at Jimenez-Landi, where the variety comes from old, ungrafted vines in Mentrida – reductive, precise, with a tension rarely expected from Spanish white wines.
