Callet

Also known as: Callet Cas Concos (Mallorca)

Callet is Mallorca’s leading red grape variety – robust, deep-rooted, with the ability to thrive on barren limestone soils where other varieties would have long given up. The grape produces wines with Mediterranean earthiness, dark berry fruits and a herbaceous note reminiscent of maquis and thyme. For a long time, Callet was primarily used in blends, but today winemakers such as Mesquida Mora demonstrate that the variety also convinces on its own – with structure, depth and a salty-mineral freshness that speaks of its proximity to the Mediterranean.
