Wine Description for Ried Loiserberg Grüner Veltliner & Riesling 1.ÖTW Kamptal DAC 2023 from Loimer

Colour & Appearance
Luminous lemon yellow with green reflections and crystal-clear brilliance – a wine that already communicates its freshness and vitality in the glass.
Nose
Here two worlds merge into a fascinating whole. The aromatics begin with vibrant citrus freshness – kaffir lime, bergamot and fine citrus oils – before softer nuances of green pear, nashi and white peach unfold. Yet the wine does not stop at fruit: white pepper, sencha tea and a mineral foundation of flint and chalk lend it complexity and depth. This balance between fruit and minerality, between vibrancy and composure, makes the nose so captivating.
Palate
On the palate, the interplay of the cuvée reveals itself in all clarity. The Riesling (33%) delivers precise acidity, saline minerality and stony coolness – an almost electrifying tension that runs through the entire mouth. The fine phenolic texture polishes the palate and gives the wine grip. With air and temperature, the Grüner Veltliner (67%) comes to the fore: smoothness, roundness, a hint of creaminess. The fruit remains subtle – ripe pear, quince – yet more defining are herbs, stone and fine bitter notes. This tension between precision and fullness, between line and volume, creates a wine of remarkable energy and depth.
Finish
Long, mineral, with persistent freshness and fine salinity. The phenolic structure gives the finale grip and length – a wine that does not let go.
Terroir & Origin
The Ried Loiserberg (350–390 m) on mica schist and felsic brown earth with clayey layers decisively shapes this wine. Vines between 12 and 65 years old, only 40 hl/ha yield – this is concentrated Kamptal essence.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Whole-bunch pressing, spontaneous fermentation in large oak barrels, twelve months on full lees, a further eight months on fine lees in steel tank. Bottling in August 2025. This patient maturation lends the wine its complexity and harmony.
Food Recommendations
Pan-fried zander with herb foam, veal brisket with root vegetables, asparagus risotto with Parmesan, goat’s cheese of medium maturity or poached trout with almond butter. The mineral structure and fine phenolics make it an ideal companion for dishes with texture and substance.
Special Features
A 1.ÖTW (First Vineyard Site) according to the Austrian quality system – Loimer demonstrates impressively here how a cuvée can be more than the sum of its parts. A wine between two grape varieties, between power and finesse, between now and the future.
