Wine Description for R‘ Chardonnay Dry 2023 1500ml Magnum by Ökonomierat Rebholz

Character
The Ökonomierat Rebholz estate in Siebeldingen ranks among the pioneers of German Chardonnay and vinifies this international grape variety with a clarity and precision that combines Burgundian standards with Palatinate independence. The 2023 vintage benefits from ideal conditions and presents itself in the magnum bottle, which not only lends the wine an imposing presence but also offers optimal ageing conditions. The „R'“ stands for the Rebholz line, which interprets classic grape varieties with uncompromising character.
Terroir & Origin
The South Palatinate offers ideal conditions for Chardonnay with its lime-rich soils, mild climate and proximity to Alsace. Rebholz manages its vineyards according to biodynamic principles and allows the terroir maximum expression. The soils around Siebeldingen – a mixture of limestone, marl and loess – give the Chardonnay structure, minerality and depth. The 2023 vintage is characterised by a balanced growing season that enabled both freshness and ripeness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay is the most versatile white grape variety in the world, and Rebholz exploits this adaptability with Burgundy-inspired vinification. The wine is typically aged in wooden barrels, often with spontaneous fermentation and lees contact, which gives the wine texture, complexity and longevity. At 13.0% alcohol, the wine shows maturity without ever being heavy – a sign of the estate’s deft touch. The magnum bottle size favours a slower, more harmonious development and makes this wine an ideal candidate for cellaring.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A Chardonnay of this style calls for sophisticated cuisine: pan-fried monkfish, scallops with brown butter, sweetbreads or Comté cheese harmonise beautifully. The wine also shows its strengths with poultry in cream sauce or mushroom dishes. The magnum bottle makes it ideal for festive occasions and larger gatherings.
