Tasting note
- Colour & Appearance
- Medium density, vibrant purple-red – clear and inviting in the glass, with youthful lustre.
- Nose
- Uncomplicated yet characterful: the nose opens with juicy plum, blueberry and blackberry, complemented by fresh cherry and a hint of wild grape. Fine suggestions of ink and cool stone reveal the provenance from the heart of Cahors.
- Palate
- Juicy, fresh and equipped with a remarkably vibrant acidity structure – this Malbec comes across as cool and invigorating. The dark fruit is ripe yet simultaneously crisp and precise. The tannin shows itself lightly gripping, without being intrusive. A true Vin de Soif: uncomplicated to drink, yet with genuine character and palpable minerality in the background.
- Finish
- Medium length, fresh and clean with a pleasant echo of dark fruit and a mineral, slightly stony polish. Invites you to take another sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from micro-parcels at 350 metres altitude in Clos Troteligotte, Cahors. The soils combine clay-limestone, iron-rich siderolithic limestone from the Tertiary period and fossil-rich Kimmeridge limestone from the Jurassic – a geological diversity that gives the wine its characteristic freshness and minerality.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A blend of 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot at moderate yields of 50 hl/ha. Following hand-harvesting, destemming, spontaneous fermentation, gentle extraction and extended maceration – all sulphur-free winemaking. Short ageing in concrete vat, unfined, unfiltered. Total sulphur stands at merely 16 mg/l – a wine with natural expression and artisanal care.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Ideal as an uncomplicated companion for grilled sausages, charcuterie boards, lamb burgers or pasta with tomato sauce. Also a delight served lightly chilled with picnics and summer evenings.
- Special Features
- With just 12% alcohol and total sulphur of 16 mg/l, K-nom is a rare example of a naturally made Cahors that elegantly combines accessibility and terroir expression. No oak, no compromises – pure fruit and minerality.
