Wine Description for Tasting Package Closerie Saint Roc 3000ml Double Magnum by Tasting Package

Terroir & Origin
Closerie Saint Roc is located in Puisseguin, not far from the legendary appellations of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, on historic ground where battles for Aquitaine were fought in the 12th century. Pascal Amoreau, from the renowned family of Château Le Puy, acquired the estate in 2013 and manages the 16 hectares of vineyard consistently biodynamically. The vines, averaging 35 years of age, are rooted in the characteristic soils of the right bank of the Gironde.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The blend follows the classic Right Bank structure: 70% Merlot for fullness and fruit, 20% Cabernet Franc for elegance and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon for structure. Particularly noteworthy: ageing takes place in used oak barrels and partly in amphorae – a deliberate choice against new oak, which preserves the wines‘ original expressiveness. This philosophy of restraint is reflected across all four cuvées.
Nose
The package presents a fascinating spectrum: from the mature complexity of the 2016 with its tertiary notes via dark cherries, plums and graphite to the fresher, parcel-specific 2020s. The wines display characteristic herbal spice, fine tobacco notes and a subtle mineral undertone that clearly expresses the terroir.
Palate
What unites all four wines: an impressive vitality and finesse that clearly sets them apart from oak-dominated Bordeaux. The texture is silky and vibrant, with precise fruit and a freshness that stems from biodynamic viticulture. Each parcel – Les Noyers, Les Pins, Les Sureaux – tells its own story, sometimes Merlot-driven, sometimes Cabernet Franc-focused.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Entrecôte, lamb rack with herb crust, beef braised in red wine, aged Comté or Tomme de Brebis
Special Features
This tasting package offers a rare opportunity to explore the philosophy of a biodynamic Bordeaux estate both vertically and horizontally – an honest, unvarnished look at authentic, terroir-driven viticulture without oenological embellishment.
