Tasting note

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow with vibrant, clear brilliance – a wine that promises tension even in the glass.
Nose
The nose is of fascinating complexity: blossom and smoke open the play, followed by cider apple, hay and a fine herbal spice of fennel and aniseed. Beneath lie riper notes of almonds and peach, while a touch of crushed slate lends mineral depth. A Riesling that balances hoveringly between weightlessness and earthiness.
Palate
On the palate, a Riesling of weightlessly flowing elegance unfolds – delicate, vibrant and supple, yet shot through with fine inner energy. The texture is silky, the spice subtle and precise. The wine mediates with dreamlike confidence between a fresh lime-lemon note and a whisper of natural sweetness.
Finish
The finish is long and characterised by mineral precision: salt and stone linger on, while the fruit gently fades. A finale that invites contemplation – and the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The Hallgartener Jungfer lies at around 220 metres above sea level in the Rheingau, directly above the Doosberg. The soil consists of weathered material from the Rheingau hills with a high quartzite content, mixed with loess-loam. The slight south-easterly exposure keeps the vineyard somewhat cooler than the neighbouring Doosberg – a circumstance that explains the wine’s characteristic freshness and tension.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Single-varietal Riesling, matured in a specially purchased Stockinger oak cask. The special feature: the wine from the Jungfer lies in the very same cask every year, so that the oak influence is barely perceptible. The maturation serves ageing and integration – not aromatics. With just 11.5% abv and a dry profile, this wine embodies the classic Rheingau Riesling philosophy in its purest form.
Special Features
As a Grosses Gewächs – Germany’s highest classification for dry single-vineyard wines – this Riesling represents the very best that the Hallgartener Jungfer has to offer. The magnum bottle (1500 ml) provides ideal ageing conditions and makes this wine an exceptional candidate for the cellar. Drinking window: now until well into the 2030s.
