With just 5% alcohol, Enric Soler deliberately breaks with the conventions of modern winemaking and creates a Xarello that recalls the historical Vinos de Aguja of Catalonia – those lightly sparkling, unpretentious everyday wines that shaped the wine culture of Penedès before industrialisation. This is not a wine for point-chasers, but for those who value authenticity and drinkability over concentration.
Terroir & Origin
Penedès is historically the home of the Xarello grape and the heartland of Catalan wine culture between Barcelona and the foothills of the Pyrenees. The region benefits from a Mediterranean climate with cooling influences from the sea and the mountains. Enric Soler works in the Vinya dels Taus – vineyards renowned for their chalky soils, which give Xarello its characteristic minerality and freshness. Here wines are born with tension and vibrancy rather than opulence.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Xarello is the underrated soul of Penedès – an autochthonous variety with naturally high acidity and restrained aromatics, traditionally forming the base for Cava. At this extremely low alcohol level, Soler has likely chosen an early harvest or deliberately stopped fermentation to create a wine of refreshing lightness. The minimal residual sweetness points to a dry, purist approach – a wine that replaces substance through precision, not through power.
