Wine Description for Radica Rosso 2023 by I Vigneri di Salvo Foti

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, intense purple with violet reflections – a wine that already reveals its youthful energy in the glass.
Nose
This Grenache from Mount Etna is an aromatic feast. Sweet cherry, blackberry and morello cherry meet dark floral notes of violet and hibiscus. Behind these shimmer plum and greengage with an almond-like, stony character. The spicy side reveals itself with juniper, allspice and black pepper. Herbal freshness comes from rosemary, mint and eucalyptus, whilst undergrowth and blackcurrant bush wood add complexity. Pure finesse.
Palate
No tannin, no oak – only pure, racy acidity that gives this wine its identity. Taut, elegant, cool. The texture is silky smooth, never expansive, but rather concentrated and resilient. Basalt stone defines the mineral character, a herbal edge initially challenges, then opens the way for crisp morello cherry, sour cherry and redcurrant. Enormous drinking appeal at just 12% alcohol.
Finish
Spices and herbs dominate the aftertaste – allspice, juniper and herbal notes linger long, leaving a refreshing, mineral impression.
Terroir & Origin
From Milo on Mount Etna, where Salvo Foti and his I Vigneri revive old traditions. The volcanic basalt terroir gives the wine its characteristic stony minerality and cool elegance – Sicily from its most unconventional side.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Grenache (here likely referred to as Alicante) vinified at unusual altitude on Mount Etna. Without oak ageing, to emphasise the purity of the fruit and the terroir. A wine that combines lightness with substance.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with grilled tuna, swordfish alla ghiotta, caponata, pasta alla Norma or Provençal ratatouille. Also a revelation with goat’s cheese and herb-based dishes.
Special Features
Salvo Foti is a legend of Sicilian winemaking. With just 12% alcohol, this Radica Rosso demonstrates that great wines need not be heavy. An Etna wine of a different kind – refreshing, approachable, authentic.
