Colour & Appearance

Intense golden yellow with brilliant luminosity – a Chardonnay that announces its maturity and concentration visually from the outset.

Nose

The 2022 Darscho presents itself powerfully and multifaceted: nutty roasted notes and vanilla from oak ageing meet an intense fruit palette of orange, vineyard peach and apricot. Beneath this, a distinctive, almost vibrant minerality that lends the wine tension and depth. An aroma that promises complexity.

Palate

Here the full class of this Burgenland Chardonnay reveals itself: juicy, fruity and threaded through with crisp, fresh acidity that sits perfectly within the ripe fruit. A creamy texture rounds off the fulsome richness without the wine losing its vibrancy. The vibrating energy on the palate makes it an outstanding food companion – power and finesse in perfect balance.

Finish

Long, mineral and with lingering freshness. The fruit fades elegantly whilst the acidity provides sustained presence.

Terroir & Origin

The Darscho – named after one of the small lakes in the Seewinkel – benefits from the extraordinary microclimate at Lake Neusiedl. The 20 to 40 year old vines are rooted in this unique terroir, where Pannonian warmth meets the cooling proximity of the lake.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Pure Chardonnay, aged in oak barrels. The ageing imparts structure and complexity to the wine without dominating the fruit – classic craftsmanship from Velich winery.

Food Pairing Recommendations

An ideal partner for roasted turbot, veal schnitzel in cream sauce, mushroom risotto or mature Comté. Its structure also pairs well with more robust fish dishes such as halibut with butter sauce or lobster.
