Wine Description for Blanc de Noir VdF 2022 by Clau de Nell

Character
A Blanc de Noir from Cabernet Franc – a bold interpretation of Loire classicism. Clau de Nell, the biodynamically managed estate in Anjou, reveals its experimental side here: white wine from red grapes, vinified with the finesse and precision that characterise the house. The wine combines the spicy structure of Cabernet Franc with the freshness and vibrancy of a white wine – an exciting balancing act between genres.
Terroir & Origin
Anjou on the Loire is Cabernet Franc country par excellence. The slate soils and temperate Atlantic climate have shaped the wines of this region for centuries. Clau de Nell manages its parcels according to biodynamic principles, which is reflected in the vibrancy and authenticity of the wines. The classification as Vin de France gives the winemaker the freedom to experiment outside AOC regulations – a deliberate choice for greater creative autonomy.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Cabernet Franc is brushed against the grain here: the grapes are pressed directly, without skin contact, so only minimal colour is extracted. The result is a wine with a pale golden hue, which presents the varietal aromas of white pepper, chalk and red fruits in a new context. The 13% alcohol indicates physiological ripeness, whilst the dry orientation emphasises the mineral tension. A wine that redefines the essence of Cabernet Franc – without denying its identity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This position between white and red opens up diverse pairing possibilities: grilled fish with herb crust, veal topside, goat’s cheese from the Loire region or poultry terrine. Also an interesting choice with Asian cuisine of moderate spiciness. The cool serving temperature of 10-12°C underscores the freshness.
