Wine Description for Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes AOC 2023 by AS Sirugue-Noëllat

Character
A classic Vosne-Romanée from old vines, embodying the noble restraint and finesse of this legendary appellation. The Sirugue-Noëllat estate stands for artisanal precision and a purist approach that gives precedence to terroir. The Vieilles Vignes bring concentration and depth, without sacrificing Burgundian elegance – a wine that deserves patience and rewards it.
Terroir & Origin
Vosne-Romanée is regarded as the heart of the Côte de Nuits, that narrow limestone ridge which produces some of the world’s most coveted Pinot Noirs. The old vines are rooted deep in the iron-rich, chalky soils that give this appellation its characteristic blend of power and finesse. The 2023 vintage benefited from a warm yet balanced growing cycle, which enabled healthy, physiologically ripe grapes – a vintage that holds freshness and structure in balance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir reveals its Burgundian soul here: complex, transparent, vibrant. The Vieilles Vignes, often 40 years old and beyond, deliver smaller yields with more intense aromatics and natural concentration. At Sirugue-Noëllat, traditional vinification is practised – gentle extraction, moderate oak ageing, respect for the fruit. The result is a wine of Burgundian transparency, which places terroir above technique and maintains balance with a moderate alcohol content of 13.5% vol.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This wine calls for cuisine that does not overwhelm its finesse: roasted squab, Coq au Vin or braised rabbit with mushrooms are classic companions. It also reveals its full class alongside venison loin with lingonberries, duck breast roasted pink or a mature Époisses. The structure also allows for grilled tuna or porcini risotto – dishes that combine substance with elegance.
