Wine Description for Vosne-Romanée „Les Barreaux“ AOC 2023 by AS Sirugue-Noëllat

Character
A classic Village wine from one of Burgundy’s most prestigious communes. AS Sirugue-Noëllat maintains a traditional signature that prioritises elegance and finesse over extraction and power. The 2023 vintage, following a challenging growing season, produced concentrated yet fresh wines. With a moderate 13% alcohol content, this wine exemplifies Burgundian restraint, placing terroir above opulence.
Terroir & Origin
Vosne-Romanée is regarded as the heart of the Côte de Nuits and home to some of the world’s most expensive vineyards. The „Les Barreaux“ vineyard site lies in the southern part of the commune, on calcareous clay soils with excellent drainage. Here, wines are produced that combine the typical Vosne elegance with accessible fruit – less mystical than the Grand Crus, yet bearing an unmistakable sense of place. The continental climate with cool nights preserves the acidity structure that gives Burgundian Pinots their longevity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir displays perhaps its most refined side in Vosne-Romanée: red-fruited, spicy, silky in texture. AS Sirugue-Noëllat works with traditional methods – spontaneous fermentation, moderate extraction, ageing in French oak barrels with restrained use of new wood. This philosophy allows the Pinot Noir room to unfold its subtle aromas: cherry, wild berries, floral notes, underpinned by the mineral tension of the terroir. The vinification aims for drinkability and harmony, not for showiness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This wine calls for classic Burgundian cuisine: Coq au Vin, Bœuf Bourguignon or roasted pigeon pair perfectly. Aged Comté or Époisses are equally ideal companions. The silky texture and moderate tannin structure make it compatible with game birds, duck breast or mushroom dishes. A wine that combines complexity with accessibility – best served lightly chilled at 15-16°C.
