Kékbakator

Also known as: Kék Bakator, Bakar Kék, Fekete Bakator

One of the rarest Hungarian grape varieties – barely two hectares remain at Lake Balaton. Kékbakator belongs to the ancient Bakator family, which exists in red, blue and white. Its origins lie somewhere in the Carpathian Basin, the details lost to time. What remains: a niche existence in blends with other indigenous varieties such as Kadarka or Hajnos Kék.

Bencze Birtók at Lake Balaton preserves the variety and uses it in their indigenous blends – more a commitment to Hungarian wine history than commercial logic.
