Hajnos kék
The almost forgotten, autochthonous grape variety Hajnos kék is a historical jewel of Hungarian viticulture, currently experiencing a highly welcome renaissance around Lake Balaton. Once widely planted, this red grape is characterised by a thin skin and a vital acid structure, which ensures remarkable freshness in the glass. It yields wines of a pale, garnet-red colour that captivate with a fine spiciness, notes of wild forest berries and a floral undertone. Its strength lies in an easy-going juiciness and an animating drinkability, making it a versatile partner at the dining table.
How harmoniously this historic variety fits into contemporary blends is demonstrated by the Bencze Birtók winery on the volcanic northern shore of Lake Balaton. In the “Autochthon Red”, Hajnos kék marries with Blaufränkisch and Kékbakator to create a wonderfully vibrant, delicate red wine.
