In the glass
Colour
Pale golden yellow with distinct green reflections.
Nose
Clear and purist: green apple, white peach and citrus, accompanied by pale blossoms and the typical slate minerality.
Palate
Precise and linear with lively acidity, a delicate saline note and a refreshingly light body.
Character
Stimulating, buoyant and of seismic minerality – a cool, tension-filled slate Riesling that convinces on its own as much as at the table.
Pairing
The ideal companion to light and piquant cuisine: grilled fish with lemon, Asian dishes with ginger and chilli or crisp summer salads with fresh goat’s cheese.
Notes
Sourced from several parcels of the Marienburg with grey slate, from an estate that has farmed organically since 1984 and has been certified biodynamic since 2015. The predominantly spontaneous fermentation of the estate’s wines in old wooden casks and the award of the Robert Parker Green Emblem in 2023 underscore its sustainable, terroir-driven style.
Tasting note
Colour & appearance
Bright golden yellow, threaded with green reflections — crystal clear and youthful in the glass.
Nose
Purist and clear: green apple, white peach and citrus. With air, pale blossoms and the typical slate minerality of the Mosel join in.
Palate
Precisely and unadornedly drawn, with vibrant acidity and a delicate salty note. The buoyant 10.5% vol. make it incredibly stimulating — a wine that enlivens rather than weighs you down.
Finish
Clean, cool and mineral, with an echo of citrus zest and fine salinity.
Terroir & origin
In Pünderich on the Mosel, Clemens Busch cultivates around 20 hectares of steep vineyard sites, 11 of them in the legendary Marienburg. Three slate colours — red, grey, blue — shape the terroir. The grapes for this Riesling come from several parcels of the Marienburg with grey slate. The estate has done without herbicides since 1976, has farmed organically since 1984 and has been biodynamically certified since 2015.
Grape variety & vinification
Pure Riesling. In the cellar, patience and restraint rule: around 80 per cent of the estate’s wines ferment spontaneously in old 1,000-litre wooden casks, without cultured yeasts — the long time spent on the fine lees lends additional depth.
Food recommendations
A pleasure on its own — at the table it pairs beautifully with ceviche, sushi, steamed asparagus with lemon butter or a spicy Thai curry with coconut milk. Seafood and light summer salads suit it just as well.
Special features
An estate wine that carries what the great vineyard sites promise: slate precision, drinkability and the low alcohol that makes the Mosel unmistakable. In 2023 the estate was awarded the Robert Parker Green Emblem for sustainability — here you can taste why.
