Wine description for Instantanée Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut 2019 by Huré Frères

Character
The Instantanée Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut 2019 embodies the purist philosophy of Huré Frères. As a Blanc de Noirs vinified exclusively from red grapes, this Champagne reveals the powerful, structured side of Champagne. The name „Instantanée“ – the moment – alludes to a snapshot of a vintage, whilst the Extra Brut dosage with minimal sugar addition underscores the unvarnished authenticity of the wine. At just 12% alcohol, it remains elegant and highly drinkable.
Terroir & Origin
The Huré brothers farm their vineyards in Ludes in the Massif de Saint-Thierry, north-west of Reims. This lesser-known zone of Champagne produces Champagnes with distinctive character – often earthier and more mineral than the grand crus of the Montagne de Reims. The maritime climate and chalk-rich soils shape the identity of these wines, which balance between power and finesse.
Grape variety & Vinification
The blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier is characteristic of this region. Pinot Meunier, often underestimated, lends fruitiness and accessibility, whilst Pinot Noir provides the structural backbone. As a vintage Champagne, the 2019 reflects the conditions of a specific harvest year. The Extra Brut dosage (0-6 g/l residual sugar) demands uncompromising quality from the winemaker in the base wine – any weakness would be ruthlessly exposed. Huré Frères works with minimal intervention, often employing spontaneous fermentation and extended ageing on lees.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The taut, dry structure makes this Champagne an ideal food companion. It harmonises beautifully with smoked fish, oysters, goat’s cheese or mushroom dishes. The depth of the red grapes also pairs well with light poultry or veal. As an aperitif, it appeals to purists who appreciate substance over flattery.
