Wine Description for Le Haut-Lieu sec 2023 by Huet

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, pale golden yellow in the glass – a promising first impression that already hints at the freshness of this young Chenin Blanc.
Nose
Initially, the 2023 vintage shows youthful restraint, characterised by brioche and yeast notes reminiscent of classic Champagne vinification. With air contact, the bouquet unfolds: apple, quince and pear meet lemon, underpinned by linden blossom, fresh hay and mushrooms. Subtle spice notes of anise and cardamom lend additional complexity and depth to the aromatic profile.
Palate
Here the true greatness of this Vouvray reveals itself: mineral and refreshing with a precision that captivates. The vibrant acidity is flawlessly woven into the creamy fruit texture – a textbook example of balance. A fine tannin structure lends the wine additional structure and texture, which is particularly remarkable in a dry Chenin Blanc.
Finish
Long, mineral and with a saline note that lingers for minutes. This aftertaste is the signature hallmark of great Loire wines and speaks to the wine’s extraordinary terroir expression.
Terroir & Origin
Domaine Huet ranks among the legendary producers of Vouvray. The vineyard site Le Haut-Lieu lies on the characteristic tuffeau soils of the Loire, renowned for their pronounced minerality. This geological particularity decisively shapes the wine and gives it its unmistakable identity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Chenin Blanc, one of the world’s most versatile white grape varieties. The yeast notes indicate ageing with extended lees contact, which imparts creaminess and complexity to the wine.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This wine calls for sophisticated cuisine: scallops with butter, lobster or langoustines, pike-perch in cream sauce, sweetbreads, aged Comté or Beaufort. Also an excellent choice with poultry in cream sauce or mushroom dishes.
Special Characteristics
A Chenin Blanc that touches the senses – great minerality meets drinkability. Despite its youth, already approachable, this wine will gain considerable complexity over the coming 10-15 years.
